Highland Park Mid-Century

A Colorful Revival of a 1960s Home

This St. Paul mid-century remodel revives a 1960s residence for a young couple who values conservation, sustainability, and story-driven design. The project preserved the home’s architectural structure while enhancing the floor plan for better flow, creating an open layout ideal for gathering and entertaining.

The design blends vintage curiosity with modern functionality, restoring the home’s signature corner fireplace as a focal point and adding a custom walnut kitchen designed for hosting. For one client, a graphic designer, bold color was essential. Splashy red dining chairs, playful shapes, and expressive forms infuse energy and personality throughout. For the other, nicknamed the “Sunshine Girl,” a drab office was reimagined into a vibrant sunroom with expansive windows and lush potted plants, creating a sunny indoor retreat.

The result is an award-winning mid-century interior that balances preservation with personalization, honoring the home’s history while celebrating its new chapter for a creative, color-loving couple.
