Cape Dutch Modern
A Joyful Exploration of Style, Culture, and Storytelling
This Wayzata, Minnesota home is inspired by travels to Cape Town and the striking forms of South African Cape Dutch architecture. Balancing global influence with a modern sensibility, the design celebrates storytelling, culture, and personal meaning. Clean white walls, soaring 10-foot ceilings, and abundant natural light provide the perfect backdrop for a curated mix of color, texture, and warmth.
Eclectic yet intentional, the interiors weave together iconic furniture silhouettes with artisan textiles, bold artwork, and travel-inspired accents. A timeless lounge chair anchors the living space, while tubular dining chairs, custom cabinetry, and sculptural lighting add modern edge. The vibrant green kitchen backsplash infuses personality, complemented by handcrafted details, layered textiles, and richly hued finishes. Cozy elements, like built-in window seats and a fireplace, offer retreat and comfort.
Natural materials ground the design, with light hardwood floors echoing the warmth of the cabinetry and uniting the spaces. The result is bright, modern, and layered, a home that feels both globally inspired and deeply personal. A true celebration of craftsmanship and culture, this project embraces the joy of design, creating a space that is loved, lived in, and uniquely one-of-a-kind.
