This historic restoration honors the legacy of Carl Graffunder, Minnesota’s celebrated modernist architect. Designed in the mid-century era, the home embodies Graffunder’s philosophy of merging nature, light, and modern living. Our task was to preserve its architectural significance while revitalizing it for a young family.

The home’s strong horizontality, expansive glass, and open floor plan were preserved and celebrated. Natural wood ceilings and stone elements were refinished to reveal their timeless beauty, while new interventions respect the integrity of Graffunder’s original vision.

We introduced a carefully selected palette, warm woods, slate, and clean-lined furnishings, which feels both fresh and true to its roots. Updated lighting and improved circulation enhanced livability while maintaining a minimalist ethos. Outdoor spaces were reconnected with interiors through glass walls and patios, inviting daily interaction with nature.

The result is a thoughtful revival: a residence that celebrates Minnesota’s architectural history while supporting modern family life.
