Pillsbury Castle - Children’s Room
A Fairy-Tale Bedroom Designed to Enchant and Inspire
At the historic Pillsbury Castle in Minneapolis, a stately sitting room in this 1903 English Gothic residence was transformed into a magical children’s bedroom that celebrates both history and imagination. Originally designed by architect Ernest Kennedy, this space has been reimagined with a sense of whimsy and wonder, creating a room where children can dream, play, and escape into their own Neverland.
Inspired by storybook characters like Peter Pan and Tinker Bell, the design captures a world where adventure and creativity come alive. The award-winning children’s room design balances architectural preservation with playful interiors, resulting in a spirited and joyful retreat.
The room features layered patterns and textures: colorful cotton prints, playful stripes, fanciful light fixtures, and a sun-trellis wall covering. A palette of fresh blues and greens with touches of sunshine yellow enlivens the space, while painted wood furniture and canopy-style beds bring warmth and charm. Every detail adds to the sense of magic — fluttering between history, preservation, and the world of make-believe.
