A Room for One’s Own
A Study for Creative and Literary Expression
This Minnetrista, Minnesota sitting room remodel was designed as a personal sanctuary for a busy mom and lifelong student — a place where she could focus on academic research and writing, surrounded by her beloved library. The goal: to create a cozy cocoon of inspiration that allows her to unplug from everyday demands and immerse herself in philosophy, psychology, and poetry.
Intentionally non-conventional, this salon avoids the trappings of a typical office. Instead, it embraces feminine, eclectic design with richly colorful details. A vintage sofa floats at the center of the room, purposely distant from outlets — encouraging slow, unplugged reflection. Wrapped in deep green, the moody hideaway is illuminated by a grand vintage chandelier and a symphony of layered textures.
A subtle nod to Virginia Woolf, the design celebrates the importance of a private space for creative thought. French-inspired lines, embellished ceilings, and a soft yet bold palette elevate the room into a true retreat for both study and self-expression. Distinctly different from the rest of the home, it’s a quiet haven where our client can create, read, and reflect — while still remaining close to her two young children.
